Wicklow County Council have advised the following:

Due to ongoing problems in the filter beds at Dublin City Councils Vartry Reservoir, there is currently no water supply to Enniskerry village and surrounding areas.

While we provide the pipe network for the houses that are experiencing the water shortages, Dublin City Council supplies the water.  We are, therefore, reliant upon Dublin City Council for an adequate supply and are restricted in what we can do without such a supply.  They have informed us that the algae in the water are clogging the filter beds at the Vartry reservoir giving rise to a reduction in water supply from their plant.  We have been trying to contact Dublin City Council to receive regular updates and have been placing water tankers in various locations to assist households.  Dublin City Council have informed us that they have crews working 7 days a week in Roundwood keeping filters clean and are monitoring lab results of algae counts on a daily basis.  The situation has been gradually deteriorating such that more and more areas are being affected.  We are endeavouring to supply water tankers to the affected areas and are now sourcing tankers outside of Wicklow.  Notices have been posted on our web site, our Facebook page and Eastcoast radio with regard to affected areas for weeks now and have been updating same as additional areas are being affected.

Wicklow’s Director of Services for Water and Environmental Services is meeting with Dublin City Council this afternoon to discuss the matter and Deputy Harris is to bring the matter up in the Dail.

Wicklow County Council have provided fresh water tankers at the following locations:

Entrance to  Foxes Meadow, Willow Grove
Bellevue Hill, Delgany
Jameson’s Corner, Kilmacanogue
Enniskerry Demesne, Cookstown Road, Enniskerry
Bog Meadow, Enniskerry
Kilgarron Hill, Enniskerry at Post Office
Rocky Valley Drive, Kilmacanogue (at junction with Glencormack)

Any water taken from the tankers should be boiled before use.

This problem is ongoing and the local authorities are working to rectify the situation.
