The Enniskerry Victorian Festival takes place once again on the second weekend of September this year (7th – 9th September). One of the great benefits of the festival is the ability to provide support to charitable causes and the festival committee is now assessing applications from charities for 2018. If you are aware of or involved with a charity that you think might particularly benefit from the festival’s support, the committee would be delighted to include them in the application process. Ideally the charity would have a local connection, whether that means it’s locally based (i.e. in the greater Enniskerry/Bray/North Wicklow/South Dublin area) or Enniskerry residents are involved in it as supporters, volunteers or employees. Do you have any spare rucksacks or schoolbags that you don’t really need anymore? The Alice Leahy Trust, which provides medical and related services for people who are homeless, is appealing for rucksacks or schoolbags that are clean, empty and in good working condition. The rucksacks are invaluable to people who are homeless as they can carry their possessions in them. Researchers in UCD, UL, DIT, and TCD are working on a project on the effects of flooding on drinking groundwater quality, and human health in Ireland. As part of this project, they have developed an online survey to gather valuable insight from Irish private well owners and users. The responses will be used to inform guidelines for policymakers and the public on what to do if flooding occurs near groundwater supplies.
