Native Woodland Trust Tree Planting Day – Saturday 19th October
Saturday 19th October: NWT Laragh Reserve Volunteer Tree Planting Day
This October we will be continuing our plight to turn our Laragh reserve into beautiful native woodland by planting it up with hundreds more native trees. If you would like to help, then come along to our planting day on Saturday 19th October.
The Native Woodland Trust is an environmental charity dedicated to the protection of Ireland’s rare native and ancient woodland. The Trust achieves this by setting up woodland reserves around the country such as the reserve in Laragh, CountyWicklow. This reserves network allows the Trust to protect existing woodland as well as plant new native woodland for the future. Most of the work on these reserves is carried out on volunteer days.
On the day we will be planting hundreds of native trees such as Oak, Birch and Scot’s Pine. This is a perfect opportunity to get some fresh air and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the WicklowMountains while playing your part in ensuring the success of this beautiful woodland reserve for future generations. As with all our reserves our Laragh reserve is open to the public so you can return in the future to check how your trees are coming along. The meeting point for this day will be at 11:00 am at the Brockagh Centre car park in Laragh. For a map and further details please check our website www.nativewoodlandtrust.ie or the events section of our Facebook page. The event will run from 11:00 am until 3:00pm and all are welcome. For more details please contact Kirsty at kirsty.daly@nativewoodlandtrust.ie or on 087 9619083.

The Native Woodland Trust is an environmental charity dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of our native woodlands. Native woodland is a scarce habitat in Ireland and we are actively engaged in its protection through the acquisition of woodland sites and the planting of new community woodland reserves. We currently have five woodland reserves; two in Co Wicklow, one in Co Leitrim, one in Waterford, one in Westmeath and we are in the process of expanding our reserves network. Together with local communities and volunteers we transform these sites into native woodlands through tree and wildflower planting and careful maintenance. We always aim to plant native trees of local varieties grown from local seed in our own nurseries. To complement our woodland creation and protection activity, we engage in environmental education and awareness in aimed at increasing knowledge and appreciation of Ireland’s woodland heritage.
