Charabanc Housing Association clg, (“Charabanc”) is an approved housing body and registered charity CHY 22739 (RCN: 20107772).

A Parish Forum in 1997 identified the need for a social outlet for the elderly/actively retired in the community. Funds were raised over two years to purchase a bus and the Charabanc Social Club was established in October 1999. Many friendships have been forged over the years and members meet fortnightly to enjoy social events in the Parochial Hall as well as outings to gardens, theatres, concerts and other places of interest.

A Survey conducted by Lansdowne Market Survey in 2004 among 95 respondents, confirmed the need for social and affordable housing for our elderly.

Wicklow County Council allocated a Part V site on Cookstown Road to Charabanc in the 2009 Local Area Development Plan for housing for our

elderly, following which, Charabanc Housing Association clg (“Charabanc”) was established in 2010.

Charabanc applied to the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and was given “Approved Housing Body” (AHB) status in 2014 to enable us to provide this much needed housing.

On 20th December 2021, CAIRN submitted a planning application to WCC (211533) for 84 no. dwellings (10 of which are for social housing) on Cookstown Road. This is the original site with approval for a Part V which Charabanc is seeking to develop.
