Flooding on Cookstown Road
Many residents and users of Cookstown Road have expressed serious concerns over the flooding at various locations on the road, particularly near the entrance to the Summerhill Hotel. Enniskerry Forum has received numerous representations to pursue the matter with Wicklow County Council.
Accordingly, and in light of the obvious safety issues, Enniskerry Forum has been in repeated contact with the Area Engineer from Wicklow County Council in an effort to have the matter addressed urgently. Enniskerry Forum has also been in contact with the Gardaí who support the community’s view that the flooding is causing safety issues for both pedestrians and motorists. Local elected representatives have also been contacted and are fully aware of the danger.
An urgent on-site meeting has been requested with the Area Engineer in an effort to resolve the issue. It is hoped that, given its seriousness, it can be resolved expediently but, if not, it will be escalated as necessary.
Enniskerry Forum will issue further updates as soon as matters progress. In the meantime, all motorists are urged to reduce speed and drive with extra care when approaching the affected areas. At what is already a dangerous bend, many motorists are being forced onto the wrong side of the road when passing the Summerhill Hotel heading towards the N11, and extreme caution should be exercised.
